i̅i̅ The Rabbit Takes Revenge i̅ ̅ i̅ i̅ i̅
A long time ago a rabbit and a white lion lived (lit., subsisted living) in a thick
forest. The i on and the rabbit were nei ghbors. Nevertheless, the li on alway si̅threatened
the rabbit, showing off his strength. Becausei̅the rabbit did not like the bullyi ng of the
li on, he sat i n front of a cave every day thi nki ng about what ki nd of revenge he could
take. i̅ i̅ ̅ ̅ i̅ ̅
One dayi̅the rabbit saidto the li on, "Vesterday Imeti̅a blue lion that was just like
you. T hat blue lion says he will compete withi̅you." The white lion roared i n anger aund
said to thei̅rabbit, "Bri ng that blue lion to me immediately " The rabbit said, "The blue
ion is sayi ng braggi ngly that youi̅are not capable." The white lion got angry and sai d to
the rabbit, " Where is he now ? Ouickly take me to himi̅ (his presence) ." i̅ i̅ i̅
i̅The rabbit took the white lion behi nd a large hill and (after that) poi nted with his
fi nger to a well, answering, "That animal is in that [well] over there." The lion roared
and went to the edge of the well and looked in. At that time from within the well he saw a
lion. The white lion roared severaltimes i nside the well and because of this the lion
i nside the well also roared back. At that time, the white lion, bari ng his fangs and claws,
jumped i nto the well. When the rabbit heaud thei̅sound "phu-dung" (he) sai d, "Oh my, i̅
that conceited lion has fallen i nto the well and died." A fter that the rabbit retuurned to his
home.
